MBFWA outfit 3: Vintage at Fashion Week

image

I’m not sure how it took so long for me to post the third and last outfit that I wore to the fashion week, but here it is. I was snapped by Keishikibi (StreetstyleAustralia) and also by Getty Images/Zimbio - my picture actually showed up at Newcastle Herald as part of their streetstyle poll. My friend Nusardel actually pointed it out and I made every one voted for me hahaha. And it doesn’t really matter that they spelled my surname wrong ahahha :) I’m happy enough that I have a shot or two to share with you. I actually have another outfit post coming up with this skirt, so I’ll show you more details soon enough!

Photographs by Gin Francis.

Another photoshoot I did with photographer Gin Francis. This is the second shoot in the trilogy we’re planning, and hopefully this look is a fresh difference from the last one. After discussing the possibility of bad weather, we decided to move the shoot to Queen Victoria Building and Hyde Park if the weather permitted.

I picked a 1950s day look, wearing some of these earth-colored pieces for the first time! I thought I would channel a bit of Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn, creating a casual but still graceful look! What do you think? Have I succeeded? This top is from Topshop, hence preventing me from wearing the appropriate bullet bra for the genuine look, but I don’t think it looks that bad. What do you think?

Anyway, the program for the Love Vintage Show March 15-17 Sydney (Hordern Pavilion) is now out and I will be there with the Old Hat group on the opening night to greet you all! We will be dressed in our best vintage and big smiles! I am still recruiting more people to join us for the opening night, so if you’re a vintage lover wanting to wear your best vintage between 1920s-1950s for Friday March 15th email me at mail@norafinds.com with your details ASAP!

And don’t forget I still have double passes for you to win so you can still come and visit one of the best vintage fairs in Australia! Enter here (competition ends this weekend)

Vintage Muse: Dovima or Audrey Hepburn?

I found these great pictures of Dovima and Audrey Hepburn during the filming of Funny Face. If you haven’t seen it, you must - the bookshop scene at the start is hilarious! As Dovima struck the dramatic poses, you can appreciate how cute Audrey’s puzzled face is.

In real life, these two vintage ladies were just as different. Dovima is constantly seen with strong eye makeup and her dramatic brows and strong red lips, while Audrey is known for her natural beauty and suave style. I thought it would be a fun quick post to do a comparison, and to ask you: who do you relate to in your vintage style - Dovima or Audrey Hepburn?

Also, this week has been full of blessings. If you’re following me on Twitter or Facebook you would’ve noticed how excited I am to have some great pinup girls following me on Twitter - such a fangirl! And a quick thank you to South African-based online publication Vintage Lifestyle Magazine for featuring my picture on their latest edition! So flattered by all the love from all over the world!

Love,

Dress - 1950s Reproduction - Collectif

Bag - 1950s Vintage - Relevant by Lady Lace

Bolero - 1950s Vintage - The Vintage Mistress

Shoes - Modern - NineWest

I’ve always wanted a Hawaiian dress. For years, I convinced myself that I couldn’t pull off a lot of things. Maybe it’s the numerous villains I keep seeing on movies wearing seedy Hawaiian shirt. I’m glad I got over it and ordered this from Collectif though. Collectif is a UK label specialising in 40s and 50s reproductions, and they have a great variety of clothing in really affordable price! You probably have heard via FB or Instagram that I waited many many weeks for my order to be delivered. They had a lot of problems with the courier they used for Australia, and even after numerous emails they could only tell me that they’ve hassled the courier and all I could do is wait.

So I waited.

Whether or not it’s worth it, I can’t say. Yes, it’s a beautiful dress. Yes, it has good heavy cotton that makes the shape of the skirt stay well the whole night. But gosh I hate waiting! Collectif did promise to change their shipping method, and when I checked on their website it has indeed been changed. So I guess there will be more orders in the future. The other dress that came with this one is even more beautiful, it’s the same print, but in red and a wiggle dress. But that’s another story..

I’m sure I’ll be wearing this again soon. After all, this was my “night” outfit (I wore it to see a Kings of Convenience at the Opera House) and this dress definitely still need be to paraded under the sun. I mean, you can’t even see that it’s a beautiful halter dress (bad blogger, BAD!) Anyone wants to take me out for a high tea? :)

Love,
