Dress - Vintage 1950s/1960s “Embassy” dress - Victor and the Mature Vintage Sale

Bag - Vintage NOS “Glomesh” bag - c/o Over The Top Vintage

Hat - Vintage 1950s straw pillbox - JLVintage

Shoes - Vintage 1980s “Bally” shoes - I Love Vintage

So my vintage meetup was a disaster. A friend of mine came along, and basically she was the only one (+ me and boyfriend) there. The lovely bloggers Tim and Jesse showed up a few hours laters (I didn’t know they were still showing up), and I missed them by about an hour. Gutted. Many couldn’t make it for various reasons, and it stormed in the morning, so I guess more people couldn’t be bothered. I think I will leave it to others to organise meetups. So if you’re keen on attending one, check out Old Hat group.

Wanting to make sure that I didn’t leave anyone out, I hung around for a bit - chatting to some Sydney Antique Centre sellers and trying on beautiful pieces. I actually purchased a gorgeous 1930s velvet/rhinestones hat to match my 1930s velvet/rhinestones dress, a piece I’ve been saving for the cold weather. But that’s for another post - let’s talk about my outfit.

This shift dress is the piece I picked up at Victor and The Mature sale, a beautiful Australian “Embassy” dress. I found out from blogger/seller Bess Georgette that these dresses used to be sold in Coles (a supermarket line here in Australia) and this is the fun article she recently wrote about these dresses. Can you imagine if you can still buy these dresses in Coles? Hmmm… I spend too much time grocery-shopping already I might never leave!!

My accessories are all first-timers on the blog, but I know they’ll make more appearances in the future. Especially my gorgeous gorgeous bling-bling of GloMesh clutch. It’s just perfect with my new vintage Bally heels with the brown and gold colors. Don’t you just love it when pieces just accidentally match each other? Or are you one of those wise ones that only buy things that match existing pieces in your wardrobe and build your collection that way? I have to admit I should probably think about how I will wear a piece before buying it, but I often go “ugh, I love it. Life is too short.”

Love,

Vogue’s FNO: Bally and Georg Jensen

Confession: This week’s Vogue’s Fashion Night Out was my first one. I wanted to go last year, but due to my travel plans I was actually on the plane from London to Singapore, missing both FNO and also the Sydney one. So when I realised I was going to be in town this year I thought I better go and check it out.

The city was buzzing with enthusiastic shoppers. After all, Miranda Kerr was present, as well as Christine Centenera. I managed to sneak in visits to two shops - Bally and Georg Jensen. Why? First of all, Bally invited me to go and check out the exclusive ballet flats launched on the night. Bally is a brand I grew up knowing is an exclusive (read: expensive) one, but I thought I’d go and pretend that I belong amongst the beautiful things. Okay, maybe it’s not really that bad - I was too scared to ask for the price of this beautiful mint green croc bag. One point if you can tell me how much it costs, more points if you buy it for me.

Between Bally and Georg Jensen, my friend Angel and I sneaked in a happy snap! I wore a dress by Mika and Gala via Princess Polly, Georg Jensen Heritage 2012 earrings, vintage Oroton scarf as belt via Coco Repose, and my reliable Cambridge Satchel Company bag

And… now to Georg Jensen. Why did I pay them a visit? Well, I’m a fan. A big fan. Their Fusion rings are on the top of the wanted list, probably just second to a Proenza Schouler bag. I knew it was going to be a big mistake going there and trying on those beautiful rings on my finger.. I think I’m going to have to save up. Hard.

Georg Jensen invited two fashion bloggers Monique from SneakyPeek and Jasmine Howell from FriendInFashion to style attendants in beautiful Georg Jensen pieces. It was a good opportunity to try on the pieces and ask questions about the best way to wear them. There were some very fascinating pieces like The Moonlight Grapes shoulder accessories. Very old Hollywood, very glamorous..

Look at that face that screams out “Oooohh!!!! Shiny things!”

Boyfriend was more interested in his champagne than listening to me squealing over the Fusion rings.

The Moonlight Grapes pendant.. sigh!

Styled by SneakyPeek! Sadly enough, only the GJ earrings actually belong to me. The pendant and ring were some pieces I tried on.

I was actually impressed by Georg Jensen’s collaboration with the two fashion bloggers. Such collaboration is common in the UK and USA - bloggers would actually host the FNO in stores! Who knows, maybe one day yours truly can get involved in FNO? Hey, hey, one can dream…
