Instagram Updates

You might be thinking this post is pointless if you are already following me on Instagram… well, you’re wrong! I hate writing captions on Instagram and I can’t put in links, so here is a Instagram Updates post where you can click through and get a piece of vintage and vintage-inspired beauty :)

My first pair of new shoes: Sasha-Rose custom pre-order Monica oxfords in purple python. So so beautiful so precious. Sasha-Rose is one of my fave Australian designers who I first fell in love with for her 1940s inspired designs. I also cannot wait for her upcoming collection, which she has promised to show me soon enough!

This is how I would look like if I was an emo. Confession: I was an emo before. Chatting to someone I worked with 5 years ago, I was reminded of how different I was (and how I used to dress) back then. Let’s just say there was a lot of concert t-shirts, skinny jeans, and Converses. And smudged eye liners. One workmate used to say that she could tell what mood I was in depending on how smudged my liner was.

Another pair of new shoes from I Love Vintage. I don’t actually own a pair of red heels, so when I see this pair and the epic carved heels it has I know I must have it! This is an 80s vintage pair and I cannot wait to wear it out. Hopefully will find a reason soon enough! I don’t wear heels often and pride comfort over look so this baby will have to wait for its turn.

As I mentioned in my last post, since no one showed up at the vintage meetup, I have more double passes to give away. I have EIGHT double passes for eight winners and I will pick the winners the end of this week. So please enter (LIKE and COMMENT) here if you want to win!

I bought myself a fabulous 1930s velvet and rhinestones hat to match my existing 1930s velvet and rhinestones dress. When I saw this hat at Over The Top Vintage, I just knew it was meant to be. I’ve been saving this dress for colder weather, but now it has a matching hat so I must admit I’m rather giddy :)

My friend Nicole at Forgotten Muse Vintage sent me a package containing some vintage sewing patterns and a coat perfect for the autumn! I’ve been really slack with my sewing but I’m working on a dress at the moment and hopefully I’ll get to finish it soon.

Sneak-peek of upcoming outfit post looking casual in my vintage leather overall.

Weekend, oh the glorious weekend. Is it me or this week’s been a really long one? Yawn! I’m making a dress at the moment and I really need the weekend to work on it!

I completed this skirt around two weeks ago, and I’ve worn it several times since. It’s so versatile because of the fun print and the length, and I lined it with satin so it holds its shape nicely and doesn’t crease easily. Some people prefer plain fabric when sewing their own clothes, but I look at sewing as a fun past time activity. I want to be able to create something I can’t get in shops (using vintage patterns) and in fun fabrics (I really do love prints!).

This outfit is another example of print mixing, accessories stacking, and silver/gold clashing. I do agree that gold and silver accessories don’t always work, but sometimes you gotta give it a try. I envy girls who can put together outfits in their minds. I’m not one of them. I actually need to physically put together pieces on myself before I can decide whether or not the outfit works. That does actually mean changing in and out of clothes and putting on and taking off accessories a billion times before I walk out the door, and yes, my boyfriend is indeed very patient.

I think this outfit works, but what do you think? And are you like me? Do you need to physically put together pieces or can you create an outfit in your head?

Love,

Day-to-night: a good outfit is not to be wasted

I’m not one to waste a good outfit. Though Anna Dello Russo said not to wear the same outfit twice, I’m a real person with limited wardrobe. And I thought it would be fun to show you an outfit I could wear to work, to a picnic, or for a night out.

This beautiful Japanese dress is one of the three I picked up from Vintage Junkyard at the Love Vintage Show. The number of dresses in that stall was overwhelming, but I managed to narrow it down to three beautiful light dresses I can wear for spring and summer. This dress is the first one that caught my eye - the lace collar is too sweet and there are hidden roses in the pattern that only shows under certain light.

I’m really looking forward to my holiday - less than two weeks now! I will schedule some posts while I’m away, but I will hopefully be away from the computer most of the time and relaxing by the beach. I promise you lots of posts afterwards though!

I hate my.. forehead

Proudly showing you more selfies… because bloggers are not photographers and should not be ashamed that they’re showing real pictures of real people! Whoop!

I’ve always been conscious about my high forehead. Like Tyra Banks, I call it my fivehead. I literally can place a whole palm over mine while most people can only do four fingers (minus thumb). Come on, try it, you know you want to! I’ve had this pixie cut for over a year now, and have recently started thinking about growing it out. The main reason is because I want to be able to do vintage hairstyles! I am, however, very lazy. If I had long hair (which I did for a while) I would end up not styling it and putting it up in a ponytail. As much as I like how long hairs look good on a lot of girls, I think it’s not for me!

After a fresh cut, my fringe is often too short for this headscarf styling. But after a few weeks, it gets to the perfect length where I can comb it back all puffy and style it with my too-many headscarves. I think it looks quite cute and close enough to a vintage 50s hairstyle. I’ve yet to wear this style out though, the problem being my forehead and how it will attract too much attention. Silly I know! Anyway, let me know what you think! Maybe you can convince me that I look a-okay?
