Instagram Updates

You might be thinking this post is pointless if you are already following me on Instagram… well, you’re wrong! I hate writing captions on Instagram and I can’t put in links, so here is a Instagram Updates post where you can click through and get a piece of vintage and vintage-inspired beauty :)

My first pair of new shoes: Sasha-Rose custom pre-order Monica oxfords in purple python. So so beautiful so precious. Sasha-Rose is one of my fave Australian designers who I first fell in love with for her 1940s inspired designs. I also cannot wait for her upcoming collection, which she has promised to show me soon enough!

This is how I would look like if I was an emo. Confession: I was an emo before. Chatting to someone I worked with 5 years ago, I was reminded of how different I was (and how I used to dress) back then. Let’s just say there was a lot of concert t-shirts, skinny jeans, and Converses. And smudged eye liners. One workmate used to say that she could tell what mood I was in depending on how smudged my liner was.

Another pair of new shoes from I Love Vintage. I don’t actually own a pair of red heels, so when I see this pair and the epic carved heels it has I know I must have it! This is an 80s vintage pair and I cannot wait to wear it out. Hopefully will find a reason soon enough! I don’t wear heels often and pride comfort over look so this baby will have to wait for its turn.

As I mentioned in my last post, since no one showed up at the vintage meetup, I have more double passes to give away. I have EIGHT double passes for eight winners and I will pick the winners the end of this week. So please enter (LIKE and COMMENT) here if you want to win!

I bought myself a fabulous 1930s velvet and rhinestones hat to match my existing 1930s velvet and rhinestones dress. When I saw this hat at Over The Top Vintage, I just knew it was meant to be. I’ve been saving this dress for colder weather, but now it has a matching hat so I must admit I’m rather giddy :)

My friend Nicole at Forgotten Muse Vintage sent me a package containing some vintage sewing patterns and a coat perfect for the autumn! I’ve been really slack with my sewing but I’m working on a dress at the moment and hopefully I’ll get to finish it soon.

Sneak-peek of upcoming outfit post looking casual in my vintage leather overall.

The essentials and the quick trends

<All pictures by Justin Lee>

In my mind, clothes/shoes/accessories are generally divided into two categories: the essentials and the quick trends.

The essentials are one of those pieces that you’ve had for or plan to keep for years. The pieces you might find hidden in the back of the wardrobe, which then you wear for months and then go back again into the black hole of your massive collection. They are the classic piece that you pick up when you don’t know what else to wear, when you’re doubting whether you look too trendy or too ridiculous. They are the piece that will always make you look good.

The quick trends are the ones that you purchase because you were brainwashed after seeing them in every display of every store. The ones that you buy because you saw on a magazine/blog once and then more the next month and 100 more the following month. They are the ones you shouldn’t spend too much money on, because after the trend passes they’ll be the first to go into your Salvos pile. They often don’t have the best quality, you often ponder “this doesn’t really go with anything else” and you might get a buyer’s regret right away.

I have to say my wardrobe is about 50-50. When I put together this outfit on the weekend, I thought “this skirt doesn’t really go with anything” and “these shoes aren’t the most comfortable”. But that obviously didn’t cross my mind when I got them. I got the skirt because I was brainwashed by everyone wearing fishtails, and I just had to buy them shoes because Solestruck was having its massive sale. They weren’t expensive, but I could’ve done it without.

I constantly think that I should be wiser when purchasing stuff, but I also need to keep recycling because I quickly get bored. I did come up with a rule though: no buying stuff for over $100 a piece without thinking twice, three times, four times. Quality is supposed to win over quantity, but in this world of fashion and blogging: how many times can you really wear the same thing? And how many of us can actually afford buying numerous quality pieces on our pay? Well, maybe some can but I’m a poor scientist!

I apologise for the essay, but if you do make it til the end, let me know what you think.

Must.. resist.. temptation

So today I bought myself another thing, hopefully the last thing I purchased before going to UK. Boyfriend has been giving me a look every time I browse through Etsy or Shopbop or Net-a-Porter and he kept reminding me that I will potentially go bananas in UK and fill up a whole suitcase! But it’s soooo difficult to resist temptation when every online shop around is having MASSIVE sales! The few things that I am finding really difficult to resist…

1. Black faux leather jumper - Vintage (from the lovely Forgottenmuse in Etsy)

2. Diane von Furstenberg Irene T-Strap Heels (from Ssense)

3. Viktor & Rolf Zebra sequin pump (from Forwardforward)

4. Wayuu Taya Susu Bag (from Shopbop)

5. Mihara Lace necklace (from Whiteowl on Etsy)

WANT! NEED! CANT HAVE!
