Instagram Updates

You might be thinking this post is pointless if you are already following me on Instagram… well, you’re wrong! I hate writing captions on Instagram and I can’t put in links, so here is a Instagram Updates post where you can click through and get a piece of vintage and vintage-inspired beauty :)

My first pair of new shoes: Sasha-Rose custom pre-order Monica oxfords in purple python. So so beautiful so precious. Sasha-Rose is one of my fave Australian designers who I first fell in love with for her 1940s inspired designs. I also cannot wait for her upcoming collection, which she has promised to show me soon enough!

This is how I would look like if I was an emo. Confession: I was an emo before. Chatting to someone I worked with 5 years ago, I was reminded of how different I was (and how I used to dress) back then. Let’s just say there was a lot of concert t-shirts, skinny jeans, and Converses. And smudged eye liners. One workmate used to say that she could tell what mood I was in depending on how smudged my liner was.

Another pair of new shoes from I Love Vintage. I don’t actually own a pair of red heels, so when I see this pair and the epic carved heels it has I know I must have it! This is an 80s vintage pair and I cannot wait to wear it out. Hopefully will find a reason soon enough! I don’t wear heels often and pride comfort over look so this baby will have to wait for its turn.

As I mentioned in my last post, since no one showed up at the vintage meetup, I have more double passes to give away. I have EIGHT double passes for eight winners and I will pick the winners the end of this week. So please enter (LIKE and COMMENT) here if you want to win!

I bought myself a fabulous 1930s velvet and rhinestones hat to match my existing 1930s velvet and rhinestones dress. When I saw this hat at Over The Top Vintage, I just knew it was meant to be. I’ve been saving this dress for colder weather, but now it has a matching hat so I must admit I’m rather giddy :)

My friend Nicole at Forgotten Muse Vintage sent me a package containing some vintage sewing patterns and a coat perfect for the autumn! I’ve been really slack with my sewing but I’m working on a dress at the moment and hopefully I’ll get to finish it soon.

Sneak-peek of upcoming outfit post looking casual in my vintage leather overall.

Summer dressing

Shirt - Vintage 70s in 50s style - Cricketcapers

Skirt - Vintage 50s - BohemianBisoux

Headband - Vintage - Thrifted

Bag - Modern - Cambridge Satchel Company

I can’t be the only one who’s struggling to dress vintage in summer right? There’s just something about the colder weather that allows you to layer up, wear that vintage stole, gloves, or fascinators. But how do you dress vintage in a heatwave of 43degC? It’s even hotter than my own blood! When I developed this pictures, I cringed every time I see that I should’ve tucked my shirt tidier. Mom wouldn’t be impressed.

I wore this on a summery day around 33degC. I actually had a bit of rash from the heat last week, so I try to keep super cool and I choose to wear cotton :) This dear shirt of mine was a favorite that somehow escaped being featured in an outfit post. It’s a 70s deadstock shirt in 50s style, and I just love the upturned sleeves! I should really copy the shape and make similar shirts myself! Paired with my new 50s skirt, a friend actually said I look like a 50s schoolgirl. I took that as a compliment and put it in the pile with “you looked like a stewardess/teacher/Doris Day”.

Again, the always reliable headband saved the day. My hair’s annoying me a bit and I am actually considering of finally abandoning the pixie so I can explore more curls/fascinators/hat pins. Some friends say I will end up losing my “signature look”, but what do you think? Keep or dump the pixie? HELP!

Have a great weekend my lovelies!

Late 30s/early 40s vintage dress from The Fifties Fair at Rose Seidler House

1960s vintage velvet cape from The Vintage Mistress

1950s vintage beaded bag (gifted) from The Vintage Mistress

Victorian-style brooch from SCDVintage

1950s vintage half-slip (worn underneath), from Cricketcapers

Open your wardrobe and tell me the three most common colors that you see. Mine will have to be black, blue, and green. As I compiled my favorite looks from 2012 I realised my preference for these colors, and this motivates me to rethink my wardrobe choices for this year. Luckily, my subconscious realised this earlier - when I ordered some fabrics a few weeks ago I actually picked brighter colors that will enrich my color palette. So hopefully I will be making some great colorful pieces in the upcoming months.

I realised that again, I’ve started the year with blue and green. But you must admit that this late 30s/early 40s mint green dress is rather fabulous. I wore it previously to the Sydney Opera House to watch Rufus Wainwright, but I thought it was time to wear it again with my new 60s velvet cape. After all, I can’t resist the lace details on the front. Still one of my favorite vintage dresses.

So it’s technically summer, but on a perfect windy afternoon boyfriend and I decided to go for a nice dinner by the beach, and I thought a velvet cape would be suitable to protect me from the cold breeze. I actually ordered a modern cape last month, but I guess the god of vintage didn’t approve of that - I got an email from the shop saying that the only cape they have in my size turned out to be faulty. I could’ve gone for a bigger size but I took it as a sign, took the refund and continued searching on Etsy. It actually paid off because I then found this at The Vintage Mistress for half the prize of what I would’ve paid for the modern cape.

Oh, and this new old bag? I did such a big purchase with The Vintage Mistress she gifted me this bag. Oh yes, aren’t I lucky? And yeah, any time you want to remove some old vintage that you no longer want I’ll be happy to take them. Thank you in advance.

Love,
